Career Highlights:

I have taught at ESU since 1997. I have published articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented my scholarly work in many academic conferences. Which online degree program(s) do you teach?

  • Which classes do you teach online?

    BC 807: Managerial Economics

  • What types of projects can your students expect in these courses?

In Managerial Economics students can expect homework assignments and exams (all online). These are all short answer (not multiple choice) questions. They require students to solve or answer the relevant questions and show a complete explanation of their work. A considerable portion of the work will be quantitative (will involve mathematics, statistics, and graphical analysis).

  • What do students learn in your classes? What is the expected outcome?

We will use basic microeconomic theory, e.g., supply and demand, market structure, theory of the firm, consumer theory, etc., to analyze business decisions like product price and output decisions, production techniques decisions, marketing decisions, etc. Students will also learn to use economic theory and quantitative tools to determine the optimal outcome. We will discuss private sector solutions to these decisions and the role of government intervention when there is market failure.

  • What advice would you give to those considering this online MBA program?

For seven-week classes, students should plan on being available for the entire seven weeks. Taking time off in the middle of the session is not recommended. Students should be prepared to meet strict deadlines for submission of required work. They should use all means of contacting the instructor and academic coaches for additional help, including discussion boards, chat, email, Zoom, etc.

  • What is the value of an MBA?

An MBA gives a student access to many jobs in business and other areas. They may choose to be entrepreneurs and start their own business or work for an established business and rise through the ranks. This degree gives them the flexibility to move up in their chosen career or even to switch careers if they believe it is necessary to do so.

  • Why did you start teaching?

I like staying in touch with students and also with the latest developments in my discipline. Teaching has taught me as much about economics as I learnt as a student.

  • What is the one book you think everyone should read?

While not a book, it is absolutely essential that students read a newspaper every day. Social media is not a substitute for reading a newspaper.
